For over two decades, I've had the privilege of helping clients with a wide range of mental health & relational issues. Despite their differences, many of my clients and their families have been negatively impacted by the destructive nature of divorce.
Earlier in my career, I found it frustrating not being able to help my clients earlier in the divorce process. So I would educate friends, family, and anyone who would listen to me about the pitfalls of divorce and ways to divorce and co-parent without hurting themselves and their children.
Don't get me wrong, I am honored that families trust me to help them achieve their goals and heal after divorce. I just knew that I could do more to help families going through divorce if I could intervene before and during divorce and not just after the separation.
Fortunately, I was not alone in my concerns and frustrations about the adversarial nature of divorce and the limited resources for individuals and families. So, for the persistence and hard work of many family advocates, new roles were developed, allowing mental health professionals to intervene throughout the divorce process to provide support and guidance for families when they need it the most.
